Molise

Molise

Molise, though a petite region, is a hidden gem in the world of viticulture. The region is blessed with a fantastic combination of climate, soil and altitude, perfect for vine cultivation. However, the region has faced challenges with high production costs and low yields, making it one of the lesser-known wine-producing regions in Italy. Despite producing a modest 319,000 hl of wine in 2009, the quality of the wine produced is commendable. The region features a variety of grapes including reds like Sangiovese, Montepulciano and Aglianico, as well as whites like Trebbiano Toscano and Malvasia Bianca di Candia. Molise also experiments with international varieties such as Cabernet, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay. These grapes contribute to the region's distinctive DOC and DOCG wines.
