History

The history of Ruché di Castagnole Monferrato DOCG dates back to ancient times. Despite its long-standing tradition, this wine only gained its DOCG status in 2010. The name 'Ruché' may come from 'Roche', or rock, referring to the poor, rocky soil in which the vines thrive. The wine has been produced in the region for centuries, but it was Father Don Giacomo Cauda, the parish priest of Castagnole Monferrato, who dedicated his life to the promotion and enhancement of this unique grape variety in the 1960s and 70s.

Geographical Production Area

Ruché di Castagnole Monferrato DOCG is produced in the Piedmont region, specifically in the province of Asti and Alessandria. The production area is characterized by hilly terrains, located 200-400 meters above sea level. The soil is calcareous-clayey, rich in iron and other microelements. The climate is typically continental, with significant temperature variations between day and night, which contribute to the development of the grape's aromatic components.
