History

The Grottino di Roccanova DOC was established in 2009 and is named after the small town of Roccanova in the province of Potenza. The wine is made primarily from the Aglianico grape variety, which has a long history in the Basilicata region. It is believed that the Greeks introduced this grape variety to the region around the 7th century BC. The wine is produced by a few local wineries that have been preserving and enhancing the wine making tradition of the area for generations.
