Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC is a red wine known for its deep, ruby red color. It possesses an intense, concentrated aroma with notes of ripe berries, tobacco, spices, and a hint of earthiness. On the palate, this wine is full-bodied with a robust structure, exhibiting a perfect balance between its acidity and tannins. The taste reveals a complex profile of dark fruit, leather, and a touch of vanilla, leading to a long, elegant finish.

History

The history of Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC dates back to the 1940s when Mario Incisa della Rocchetta started experimenting with Bordeaux varietals on the Tuscan coast. He planted his vineyards with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, a decision considered revolutionary at the time. His efforts resulted in the creation of 'Sassicaia', a wine that would later become an icon of Italian winemaking. In 1994, the wine was awarded its own DOC, making it the only wine from a single estate in Italy to enjoy this status.

Geographical Production Area

Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC is produced in the Bolgheri sub-zone of Tuscany, located in the Tyrrhenian coast. The region is characterized by its unique microclimate, influenced by the sea breezes and protective hills. The vineyards are planted on sloping terrains, with soils rich in stony and rocky elements, which contribute to the wine's distinctive mineral character. The warm, sunny days and cool, temperate nights allow for the perfect maturation of the grapes, resulting in wines of exceptional quality and character.
