History | The Xarel-lo grape, a native of Spain, is a robust variety of medium vigor, capable of flourishing in various types of soil up to altitudes of 400 meters. It is recognized for its consistent and high yield. Historically, Xarel-lo has been a significant component of the sparkling wine, Cava, produced in the Penedès region of Catalonia. In recent years, however, winemakers have started to appreciate the grape's potential for creating high-quality, still white wines. |
Ampelographic features | Xarel-lo is a medium-vigor vine, known for its early budding and mid-season ripening. It is ideally suited for wide trellising systems and prefers medium to long pruning. The grape clusters are medium-sized and very dense, with berries featuring a thick, round skin. |
Characteristics of the wine | Wines produced from the Xarel-lo grape exhibit a golden straw-yellow hue, backed by a good level of alcohol and a delicate aroma. These wines are often characterized by their high acidity, lending a crisp freshness that balances their full-bodied nature. Notably, Xarel-lo wines may also present notes of green apple, citrus, and a distinctive saline quality. |
