Terre di Cosenza DOC is a red wine with a deep ruby color that can evolve into garnet with aging. The aroma is typically intense and persistent, with hints of red fruits and spices. On the palate, it is full-bodied and robust, with good tannins, yet it maintains a harmonious and balanced taste. It has a characteristic warmth that denotes its southern origins and a pleasant and persistent finish.

History

The Terre di Cosenza DOC was established in 2011, uniting the previous Bivongi, Donnici, Lamezia, Pollino, San Vito di Luzzi, Savuto and Verbicaro denominations, and giving a significant boost to the quality wine production of the Calabria region. The wine-making tradition in this area dates back to the Magna Graecia era, and the vineyards here have flourished in the Mediterranean climate for centuries.

Geographical Production Area

The Terre di Cosenza DOC is produced in the province of Cosenza, in the Calabria region of southern Italy. The region is characterized by a Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild winters. The vineyards are typically located on hilly terrain, which provides excellent exposure and drainage, and the soil is predominantly clayey and calcareous. These factors, combined with the influence of the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea, create a unique terroir that contributes to the distinctive characteristics of the Terre di Cosenza DOC wine.
