Salaparuta DOC is a robust red wine that boasts a deep ruby color that may verge on garnet as it ages. It reveals intense and complex aromas of ripe red fruits, spices, and hints of tobacco. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, warm and harmonious, with a fine balance between tannins and acidity. It pairs well with hearty dishes such as red meats and game.

History

The Salaparuta DOC was established in 2006, but the region's wine history stretches back to ancient times. The vineyards are situated around the town of Salaparuta, which was relocated after an earthquake in 1968. Despite the relatively recent creation of the DOC, the winemaking tradition in this area is deeply rooted and the wines reflect the rich culture and history of Sicilian winemaking.

Geographical Production Area

The Salaparuta DOC is located in the western part of Sicily, Italy. The vineyards are nestled in hilly terrain at about 300-600 meters above sea level. The climate is Mediterranean, with hot summers and mild winters. The region benefits from excellent sun exposure and cooling sea breezes, which help maintain the vines' health and the grapes' balance of acidity and sugar. The soils are mainly clay and limestone, contributing to the robust and intense character of the wine.
