History Petit Rouge is a red wine grape variety that originated in the Aosta Valley of Italy. Historical records suggest its usage dating back to the Roman times. It is believed to belong to the Orious family of grape vines, specifically falling under the 'Petits Orious' subfamily.
Ampelographic features The Petit Rouge vine exhibits medium-sized, cordiform leaves that are trilobate or quinquelobate. The leaf surface is a semi-glossy dark green with a glazed upper lip and slightly clothed lower lip. The flap of the leaf is typically folded to a gutter or cup shape.
The bunches are of medium size, moderately compact, and are of a truncated pyramidal shape with two wings. The peduncle is semi-woody and the pedicels are rather long. The acinus is of a rather small size, round and regular, with a very pebbly skin in a vibrant red-blue-purple hue.
Characteristics of the wine The wine produced from the Petit Rouge grape is a deep purple-red in color. It offers a rich and intense aroma, and is known for its softness and high alcohol content. The tasting notes often reveal a unique sweetness, making it a delightful choice for wine enthusiasts.
