Noto DOC is a red wine known for its robust, full-bodied nature. It has a lovely deep ruby red color that is almost opaque. On the nose, it often offers up scents of ripe red fruits, spices, and a hint of licorice. The taste is rich and concentrated, with a velvety texture and a balance of tannins and acidity. The finish is persistent, leaving a pleasant and harmonious aftertaste.

History

Noto DOC is named after the town of Noto in the province of Syracuse, Sicily. This wine has a long history dating back to the time of the ancient Greeks who initially introduced vine cultivation in the region. The production of this wine was refined and developed over time to create the high-quality Noto DOC we know today. Despite its ancient origins, Noto DOC was officially recognized as a DOC in 2008.

Geographical Production Area

Noto DOC is produced in the southeastern part of Sicily, specifically in the province of Syracuse. The production area is characterized by its hilly landscape and Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters. The soil in this region is rich in limestone and minerals, which contribute to the unique taste of Noto DOC. The vineyards are often planted on sloping hillsides, allowing for optimal sun exposure and drainage.
