Franciacorta DOCG is a renowned sparkling wine known for its delicate golden hue and persistent effervescence. The wine exhibits a vibrant and complex aroma profile featuring green apple, citrus, and toasted almonds, making way for an elegant and well-rounded taste. The wine's body is typically medium to full, characterized by high acidity and a refined, persistent finish.

History

The history of Franciacorta DOCG dates back to the 16th century, but it wasn't until the 1900s that the region began to focus on the production of high-quality sparkling wines. The designation of 'DOCG' wasn't granted until 1995, making it one of the newer entrants in Italy's prestigious wine catalogue. The method of production, 'Metodo Classico', is similar to the 'Champagne method', involving a second fermentation in the bottle.

Geographical Production Area

Franciacorta DOCG is produced in Lombardy, specifically in the hilly region located between the southern shore of Lake Iseo and the city of Brescia. The region enjoys a unique microclimate due to its proximity to Lake Iseo and the Alps. The soil is rich in minerals, with a mixture of glacial and morainic components. The combination of the temperate climate and rich, varied soil creates the ideal conditions for growing the Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Blanc grapes used in the production of Franciacorta DOCG.
