History Erbamat, a vintage grape variety, traces its roots back to the Brescia region, predominantly around Lake Garda and increasingly in Franciacorta. The name 'Erbamat' is derived from its unique grass-green skin which hints at the vine's distinct attributes. Notably, Erbamat is a late bloomer, known for its high acidity and subtle fragrances. It's ideal for producing sparkling wines or still wines, either mixed with similar grape variants or used solely, resulting in captivating wines reminiscent of Timorasso or the renowned German Rieslings.
Despite its unique qualities, Erbamat remains relatively obscure outside its native region, where it is gradually disappearing. However, some forward-thinking wineries have seen its potential value for the Lombardy region's viticulture and have begun to revive and promote Erbamat.
Ampelographic features Leaf: Erbamat's leaves are medium to large, pentagonal in shape, and exhibit five lobes. Bunch: The bunches formed are cylindrical or conical, without wings. Grape: The grape is medium-sized with a circular shape.
