Casavecchia di Pontelatone DOC is a red wine with a rich, intense ruby color that can develop garnet hues with aging. It boasts a strong and persistent aroma, reminiscent of ripe fruit, spices, and a hint of vanilla. The taste is warm, full-bodied with balanced tannins and acidity, leaving a pleasant, persistent aftertaste that reflects its aromatic complexity.

History

The Casavecchia di Pontelatone DOC has a long history dating back to ancient Roman times. However, it was almost lost to history until its resurgence in the late 20th century. The grape variety was rediscovered in the town of Pontelatone, where an old vine was found in the courtyard of a farmhouse, hence the name 'Casavecchia.' It was then reproduced and brought back into production, earning its DOC status in 2011.

Geographical Production Area

This wine is cultivated in the province of Caserta, in the Campania region of southern Italy. The area is characterized by hilly terrain with soil well-suited to grape growing, composed mainly of clay and limestone. The Mediterranean climate, with its hot summers and mild winters, along with the hilly landscape, provides the ideal conditions for the cultivation of Casavecchia grapes, giving the wine its unique characteristics.
