History The Ancellotta grape variety, named after the ancient noble family Ancellotti, has its roots embedded in the rich soils of Emilia-Romagna, Italy.
Despite its uncertain origins, it is widely believed that it was cultivated since the Middle Ages. While it shares similarities with lambruschi grapes, Ancellotta has always been regarded for its superior quality.
Ampelographic features Ancellotta grapevines exhibit leaves of medium size that are typically pentalobate in shape. The leaf color ranges from a light green on top to a more olive-green underneath, often showcasing a rough, irregular tooth with sharp edges.
The bunches, measuring 15-20 cm in length, are pyramidal, typically spatulate, with a herbaceous, thin peduncle. The pedicels are short and green, while the grapes themselves are visibly verrucose and display a vibrant purple hue.
Characteristics of the wine Wine derived from the Ancellotta grape is characterized by a deep ruby-red color. On the nose, it presents a mixture of fruity and floral notes. On the palate, the wine is soft, rich, and velvety, often with hints of cherry and plum, followed by a pleasant and persistent finish.
